Animal Control Facts

Anyone who has ever loved a pet knows what kind of joy they bring to a family.

But did you know that there is increasing evidence that the relationship between a pet and its owners enriches our lives, our physical health, and emotional well being?

It’s a proven fact that pets can help reduce stress, relieve loneliness and depression, prevent heart disease, and even lower health care costs.  For seniors pets are healthy and bring companionship.

Having a pet is a commitment.  If you don’t want to take on a commitment, then why even buy a pet??  It never ceases to amaze us why people buy a pet, just to give it away or abandon it after a short period of time.  Would you do that to your children??  Of course not!!

Pets are just like children.  They need to be trained.  There are numerous books available, many of them free on the internet, on how to train your dog.  It takes time, but it is time well spent.

Dogs and cats need to be neutered and spayed.  Yes, it know it can be costly, but there are many veterinarians who will do it for a low price.  You just have to call around until you find one.  Vets are concerned about the number of animals that are abandoned every day.   The Humane Society is a good resource to use to find a vet.  Give them a call!!!!!

Lastly, for those of you that keep pets……PLEASE keep them in your yard.  Also, keep them licensed.  Don’t let them get out and bother others, or possibly bite someone (if a bite is involved, the Police Department must keep the animal quarantined for 14 days).  DON’T run the risk of having your pet impounded by the Police Department. The Police Department has better things to do than chase after loose pets…..DON’T YOU AGREE????

Here are some costs for the impound of animals……

Impound …………….…………………………………………$22.00

Kennel fee, per day..…………………………………………$10.00

Release fee…………………………………………………….$10.00

If you decide not to pick up your animal there will be an additional adoption fee of $30.00 for the Humane Society.

Now, don’t you think it would be a good idea to keep your pets in your yard??

Attention Pet Bird Owners;

Avian Influenza is a serious epidemic that all citizens should be made aware of.  The Holtville Police Department has received information from the Avian Health Group that is vitally important for those of you who have fowl.  Stop by the Police Department for free literature with prevention guidelines to safeguard against disease.
