What is Graffiti??
Graffiti is the
unauthorized inscription, word, figure, mark or design that is written,
marked, etched, scratched, drawn or painted on property.
All Graffiti
scrawled on private or public property, without the permission of the
owner, is a form of VANDALISM and, as such, is a CRIMINAL ACT. Graffiti
is punishable by JAIL, FINES, or COMMUNITY SERVICE. Did you know that
PARENTS are RESPONSIBLE for VANDALISM committed by their minor children,
and may have to PAY a fine or cleanup graffiti for up to a YEAR with
their children??
Yep, that is
correct. According to the law parents are liable if their minor
children commit an act of vandalism.
The City of
Holtville currently has a Graffiti Abatement Ordinance that provides
penalties for violation of its various sections, including fines,
community service and restitution. If you see somebody committing an
act of graffiti call the Holtville Police Department at 356-2991, or WE
TIP at (800) 78-CRIME (800-782-7463). You may be eligible for a REWARD
if the person is caught and arrested.
BE PROUD OF YOUR
COMMUNITY. KEEP YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFUL AND SAFE.
