Welcome to the Holtville Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch Web Site.

Here you will find valuable information on Neighborhood Watch, one of the most effective tools of combating crime in your community.  Millions of people throughout the country are involved in Neighborhood Watch.  Members are tired of being plagued by criminal element and are using an effective tool to stop crime before it becomes an epidemic. Residents are taking a major step toward reclaiming their neighborhoods and making them a safer place to raise their families.

So what is Neighborhood Watch????  We’re glad you asked...

Simply stated, Neighborhood Watch is neighbors looking out for one another to prevent crime in their community and working with the Holtville Police Department to reduce the fear and incidence of crime. Did you know that there are over 40 million crimes committed every year, and the number is still growing???? There cannot be a police officer on every corner, so citizen involvement is essential to combat crime. By cooperating with each other and the police, people can help fight crime in their community----before it begins.

The community has the primary responsibility for fighting crime.  The best way to stop crime is to report suspicious activity before that activity becomes a crime.  This can happen when neighbors watch out for each other and work with the Holtville Police Department.

To become involved in Neighborhood Watch contact the Holtville Police Department.  We will assist you in starting a new program.  Then talk with your neighbors about the value of Neighborhood Watch. Schedule a time when you and your neighbors can meet with a representative from the Police Department.  We are available at your convenience during the day or evening.  You pick the day and time.

We will meet in your neighborhood and discuss the problems that you have identified.

We will make sure everyone understands and follows certain guidelines that we believe are important.  The most important is ensuring that everyone understands that Neighborhood Watch does not make or ask anyone to take personal risks to prevent crime.  That is what the Holtville Police Department is for.

When you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood write down descriptions of suspicious person(s), descriptions of any vehicles and license numbers. Don’t wait; contact the Holtville Police Department IMMEDIATELY.

Finally, ALWAYS stay involved.  It is the most effective way of reducing and preventing crime in your neighborhood.  A community that works together will deter the criminal element from plaguing a neighborhood.
